JOB SUMMARY
The Crime Analyst I is a civilian support position whose purpose is to provide timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trends to assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities, aiding the investigative process and providing timely information, which increases the apprehension of offenders and the clearance of cases.
This specific part-time position will provide direct crime assessment and mapping support to identify and monitor crime hotspots, which will enable us to use statistical tracking for efficient patrol methods. With the addition of this position, potential crime patterns can be discerned before repeated crimes occur.

Minimum qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, law enforcement, criminal justice or other appropriate field is preferred for the Crime Analyst I position.
Experience:
At least one year of experience in law enforcement or other social science research, preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
• Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst is preferred.
• Driver’s license and good motor vehicle record.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures.
• Knowledge of computer data systems, statistical analysis, and mapping software programs; direct experience with MS Office, SPSS and ArcMap a plus.
• Ability to present facts and render opinions to all levels of a public safety organization. Ability to lead work teams, manage projects as assigned, and develop new programs for public safety benefit. Team facilitation skills required. Ability to speak in front of large audiences and convey complex concepts and theories clearly.
• Knowledge of principles of statistics and quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, demographic and social variables affecting public safety; direct experience with SPSS a plus.
• Ability to identify and organize data for analytical purposes and present data in detailed statistical reports or other methods.
• Ability to compile and analyze data and prepare sound recommendations.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to work with and display sensitivity towards diverse groups of people.
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner with public safety personnel.
• Ability to schedule work for timely completion with minimum supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Team player and ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of police department files and the relationship between the various databases to formulate computer queries.
• Knowledge of RMS data, Logisys preferred.
• Sound understanding of mapping processes and demonstrated ability to operate ESRI’s Geographic Information Systems technology. Knowledge of cartographic and geographic principles required.
• Principles and practices of professional and technical writing. Excellent English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
